The word Bandy isn't used everywhere. In Finland it's called jääpallo(ice ball) and hockey is called ice puck(I don't know the finish translation). In Russia they often call bandy, hockey with ball, and regular hockey, hockey with puck, or simply hockey.
I agree that Bandy is regional sport in most countries though. In Norway it's almost exclusively played around Oslo. In Russia it's only big in the eastern part of the country. In Finland just a few cities play Bandy. Here in Sweden it's known as a country side sport, with many small town teams in the highest division, altough it has become more popular in the two bigger cities recently, with teams such as Hammarby(Stockholm) and Gais(Gothenburg).

As far as I know, we (Hungary) will attend the 2011 World Championship in Kazan. We took a small step in the right direction last year, almost getting a medal but we still have a long way to go before we can compete for real.
The lack of a league in Hungary makes the sport kind of not serious down there in my eyes. I'm playing in Sweden and have done so my whole life and the view on bandy is so different between the players in Sweden and in Hungary.

Welcome to our board, Kristianm! Finally we've got someone from Hungary, one of the most trustful bandy countries outside Scandinavia & Russia. I think I saw some kind of championship references on some Hungarian website, as much as Google translator could help me to figure it out. Or was I (it? ) wrong? Feel free to post more on bandy in Hungary, it will be an invaluable contribution!!

Hih everyone, here some reaction from the Netherlands. In our small country with about a 100 bandyplayers we try to be serious with this lovely sport. Allthough we do not have the big ice we try to go to Sweden severall times every year to get a good feeling on big ice. We hope to get to Kazan this year with a young enthousiast team.

That's very good to hear, thank you Cjurcka! Do you have a championship in the Netherlands?

Hello Global, It's a while ago that I watched this forum, but to answer your question about a championship in the Netherlands, to bad we only have a small competition. In the Netherlands we only have a few clubs wich play Bandy. Nijmegen is the biggest club with about 70 members, than you have Eindhoven with about 20 members and Utrecht with about 10 -15 menbers. The most players in the Dutch National Team are from BVN (Nijmegen) because they have the possibility to practice the most on ice (3 times a week). Than you have Eindhoven who practice 2 times a week. This year we will come to Kazan with a team with 5 youth players (15 - 16 year old). We are proud that we can come because we have a very good sponsor, although the players have to pay all a own contribution to get to the WC. But they all love the sport so much that they are willing to pay. Greetz Coen Jurcka BVN (Bandy Vereniging Nijmegen) www.bandynijmegen.nl

Well the B pool will depend on who shows up in the A pool. Last year Belarus didn't play so the Americans played in the A pool. But you can most likely bet the Canada, Hungry, Holland, Mongolia will all be there. I don't think Estonia played last year. And Latvia is always a mystery.

I don't think it is published on the internet yet.
I know this because I'm a player at the World Championship and have seen the schedule and the teams.
