Which teams are playing in Group A this year?
And why isn`t it better (as they are doing in Floorball right now), that there is only one Level, where Teams from Level A and Level B are playing against eachother. Ok, there are a big difference, but in the end, everybody is getting better!

A Group: Russia, Sweden, USA, Finland, Kazakstan, Norway. B Group: Holland, Hungary, Belarus, Canada, Australia, Latvia
Some info I got from Australia: Australia has just finished its 6th bandy season. We have division 1 and 2 and a junior division. Both division 1 and 2 have six teams each and our junior division has 4 teams. 2 new teams will be starting next season in our senior divisions. We have over 400 registerd players and 16 teams playing out of 5 rinks around australia. We only play rink bandy, so it will be a bit tough for us at first on the big fields. Most of our players have ice hockey, roller hockey and field hockey backgrounds, so even though australia is a summer nation, we all have ice in our veins. Our national team has been selected and all preperations have been made for the championships and our arrival.
Its no use/fun for A and B countries to play against each other, only if you see the difference between Russia and USA last year.. And the difference between the USA and Mongolia or Hungary..?

I don't know, SJC35, but I suppose the reasons for Estonia's and Mongolia's reluctance to take part in the WC'11 are of financial nature. (?)

Dersna, thank you for the info about Australia, this country somehow escaped my attention where bandy is concerned. I hope the day will come when our forum (or Bandyforum.com?) will get a lively Australian section It will be interesting to see how skilled the Australian players are, when playing against other B division teams. Here's some additional info: Bandy has only existed a few years in Australia. It's played by 8 Senior (including 16 women) and 4 Junior teams in Sydney and Australian Capital Territory. The interest for bandy came about after seeing broadcasts on Eurosport 2. The Australian Bandy Federation[2] has been a part of the Federation of International Bandy since 2006. It's in the process of starting a national team for men, and if the rules allow it, they plan to participate in the Asian Winter Games 2011 in Astana-Almaty. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sport_in_Australia

(?) too bad, you're right, its all about the benjamins unfortunately.. About Australia, seems they have some Scandinavians who helped setting things up there (and were already living Down Under). Not sure how and what..

Mongolia will participate at the Asian Winter Games and didn't have enough funds to be at both championships. And since the AWG is only played every fourth year and they have a major chance winning it didn't make the choice hard for them.

bit offtop.. Organizers of the 2011 Asian Games they want to be invited to the tournament for the bandy team in Tajikistan. KAZAKHSTAN - 05/01/1911 22:44 - [Mr. X] Official website of the Seventh Asian Winter Games, unveiled the schedule for the tournament Bend. In Almaty, four teams are going to come - in Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan and the main surprise - Tajikistan! As expected, teams of India and China in the tournament Bandy will not attend. However, all mass media in Kyrgyzstan are assured that athletes of this country will be open to ice hockey, orienteering, and figure skating, and AAI "Varzish-sport" informs only about three Tajik skiers, gathering at the Asian Games. source: bandynet.ru/node/14569

I don't know that Mongolia has a chance to win the Asian games unless Kazakhstan is sending a team of 15 year olds to be honest. They have a good chance at a medal.

I don't think that the Swedish and Russian clubs will release their Kazak players for the Asian Winter Games since it is interfering with their own leagues.
And the reason Estonia is not coming is not about the funds, it is the lack of players so they have restarted their bandy program and will participate at the U17-WC this season.

Haha thanks! Guess its a russian thing, for the 2005 WC there was the same kind of site.. or maybe even less. If you watch the b schedules, and check sheet 2 of the exceldoc, you can see the schedule for the WC in moscow also. Ah well, as long as there's ice in Kazan..
Also new news, Australia is not coming to Kazan. Due to the recent flooding. 8 of their nationalteam players are living in the area and the goalie lost a familymember due to the floods.. Sad but true.. The president of their federation and their teamcaptain will go to Kazan to meet with the FIB and stuff, but no team to play..
